GDT JDE - The last installment

Greetings!

Happy Saturday!  Wow...it took forever for the weekend to get here. :-)  I am sharing with you the final installment of my 5 part series of new release images for Jackson's Digital Stamps.  I can not begin to tell you how much I have enjoyed doing this.  A big THANK YOU to the JDE Team!!

For this card I used "A Quiet Moment" and I can totally relate to this image.  I often seek out those quiet moments that I can hear my own voice and hear answered prayers.  This image also made me immediately think about when we are faced with making a crucial decision and we are so conflicted over what to do.  It is in that moment that you really need peace and quiet so that you can here God's voice. 

Here's my interpretation of the this image entitled "The Traveler"...



A Quiet Moment

When I saw this image it reminded me of someone comptemplating a big decision.  I decided that the young man was trying to decide whether or not to take a trip somewhere.  I know funny how my brain works.  I look at an image and begin to write a story. lol  I guess cards are truly nothing but storyboards anyway (so I am not far off).  I started with 6 x 6 Kraft cardstock and layered paper from a dp 6x6 stack.  I then cut out circles from Spellbinder's to make a globe and mat.  I added a banner that I cut out using my Cricut.  I matted the image on cardstock and cut out my sentiment (verse) using the SU punches.  I finished the card off with a tag and twine.  The scripture on my card is taken from Psalm 91:2 (and it is another one of my favs).

God is your refuge

and your fortress,

in whom you should trust.

"Male" cards are always a challenge for me, but I figure the more I do the better I will become.  Practice...practice...practice. :-)

GDT JDE- Wonderfully, Fearfully Made

Happy Friday!  We made it to the end of the week. Look out weekend...here we come!!  Today, I will get right to it.  I am sharing with you the 4th of the 5 creations that I created for Jackson's Digital Expressions.  I used the "Gettin Ready Girl" to make a tag.

Here's my tag...




Gettin Ready Girl

I cut my tag out using SU chocolate cardstock and dp using the Spellbinder's Label #17.  I then layered on a lace doily, flourish from Cheery Lynn, banner diecut, and Wild Orchid Flowers.  I colored my image using Copics and added some glaze to the mirror.  To finish my tag off I used SU punches to punch out my sentiment which is one of my favorite scriptures from Psalm 139:14.  I then punched a eyelet through the top of my tag and threaded ribbon through it.

I hope that you have been enjoying these awesome new releases fom JDE.  I know I have truly enjoyed working with them.  I look forward to creating with more JDE images in the future.

GDT JDE - "Home"

I hope that you enjoyed your day off yesterday.  I am back to work today, but it's Thursday so no complaining from me. :-)

Today, I am sharing the 3rd card of 5 that I have created for Jackson's Digital Expression.  I have truly been enjoying posting these creations and I hope that you have enjoyed seeing them.  In the famous words of Dorothy, "There's no place like home."  I was born and raised in Michigan; however, my heart is in the south.  I am so inspired when I go down south to visit my family.   I come from a family of singers (excluding myself) so when we go down south my mom, aunts, sisters and cousins go to my uncle church and they "sang."  We have so much fun!

The image that I used to create this card is called "Country Church House" and it reminds me of my uncle's church.  It actually sits on stilts that stretch out to the water.  When I was a little girl I thought we would get to praising God so tough that it would tip over into the lake. lol

I allowed this card to come together naturally.  I searched through my new collection of 6x6 pads and found the dps and then I used Kraft cardstock to make a 6x6 base.  I layered the cardstock and dps and then matted the image.  I colored the image using YG01, YG05 ,YG07, YG61 and YG67 for the trees and grass; E50, E51, E53, E42, E41 and E25 for the church; BG02, BG000 and BG0000 for clouds; lastly Y08 and YR04 for the sun.  I added a mixture of gel pens to the windows to give it a stained glass look and finished it off with the silver dots. 

I stamped a scripture on the card using a stamp from CTMH and it is so appropriate, because it reads...

Come unto me,

all ye that labor and are heavy laden,

and I will give you rest.  ~Matt 11:28

What an awesome promise that God gives us through this scripture.  No matter what we are going through, there is a place where you can rest in him.  I hope that you will continue to check back in here and over on JDE's blog to see my next two creations using the July new release images. :-)

GDT JDE - "Blessed" {HAPPY 4TH OF JULY}

Greetings!

Happy 4th of July!  I am a little slow getting moving today.  I am going to make this post quick, because I am working on another post for later.  First of all, I would like to thank all the women and men in the armed forces who sacrifice their lives (and their families) to serve and protect us.  I work at a college and one of my jobs is to raise money for scholarships.  About 4 years ago, I had the pleasure of sitting down with a mother who started a scholarship in memory/honor of her son Andrew who lost his life in Iraq.  The courage she took to do this only 2 months after his death was admirable and touching to me.  She told me that she wanted Andrew's legacy to continue forever and I have made it my duty to make sure that happens.  We are still very close to this day and through her I feel like I know Andrew.  What a blessing she has been in my life.

Today, as promised, I am going to share with you the 2nd of 5 cards/projects that I have created as Guest DT for Jackson's Digital Expressions.  The card that I am sharing with you today is called Vintage Hat V; however, I named the card Blessed, because I am. :-)

Vintage Hat V

I really had a hard time creating this card.  My problem is that I didn't want to use the same old colors.  I wanted something different.  So I started out just coloring the image.  I colored it four times before I finally said, "This works!"  I used Copic colors I wouldn't usually reach for and those were BV02, BV04, Y21 and Y23.  I aslo used my coloreless blender to lighten the lightest color, because I didn't have any of the BV zeros.  It's all about improvising.  I then created a 6 x 6 card base using SU cardstock and layered on some scrap cardstock to match the BVs (which was a challenge-lol), and lastly some dp.  I matted the image (after cutting it out of the die) on to a Spellbinder's Oval lace diecut.  I added flourishes from Cheery Lynn, ribbon from Michaels, and that lace is actually a doily from my e-buddy Kim, thanks again hun!  I finished my card off with some pearls and Copica markers on her necklace to add some bling.

GDT Jackson's Digtal Expressions New Release: Bridge Ladies

I dare not ask if you are keeping cool.  I live in Michigan and winter will sneek up on us like the flu on a Kindergarten teacher. lol  I just crank up the air and keep my mouth shut.  My prayers go out to those who are dealing with the fires, storms and anyone who is having a difficult time in the heat.  This too shall pass.

Today, I have the honor, pleasure and sincere joy (*doing the happy dance*) of sharing with you one of a series of creations that I have created as the Guest DT over on Jackson's Digital Expressions.  I love JDE's artwork, because they stir up so many wonderful memories of my childhood. 

JDE kicks off their new release images this month and they are starting with an image called "Bridge Ladies."  This is a fun image that illustrators what happens when a group of the girls get together to play a game of cards.  Immediately when I saw this image, I thought about the fact that my mother never allowed us to play cards...only UNO.  To this day, the only card game I know how to play is UNO. :-)

I decided to make a gift box using this image, so that I could showcase a project.  I believe this shows how versatile the image can be and hopefully it will inspire you to  think outside-of-the-box. (pun kind of intended)  Okay, I must say that I am often plagued by "bright ideas;" however, when I try to execute them they don't always turn out as planned.  I was glad that this idea exceeded my plan.

I knew I wanted a box that would hold a deck of cards.  Therefore, I started out with the measurements of the deck of cards 21/2" x 31/2" and decided that I wanted the sides to be 1" high with an extra 1/4" to adhere it to the case.   I used my Spellbinder's Label #17 to cut a window in the box.  The "case" for the card deck was created by taking a 8" x 6" piece of cardstock and scoring it at 31/2", 4"(valley score) and 41/2". 

Finishing touches...
I cut the image out and matted it on orange and purple cardstock from my stash.  I used Spellbinder's Circle and Circle eyelet diecuts for the matting.  I also layered on some dp and orange cardstock on the front of the box.  The color scheme was inspired by Mardi Gras colors.  The banner was cut out using my Cricut and I used my sticker stash (which I almost never use) and layered on some funky black and silver letters and some fun cards.  On the inside of the box, I added some more card stickers and added a pencil and pad to keep score.  Walah!  This is my card "Card Box" project.

Okay, I have mentioned before how I love to discover new digi stamp stores.  Well, recently I came across another store thanks to Tammy Ortiz (awesome challenge site). :-)  I was in awe when I visited Jackson's Digital Expressions.  I immediately made a purchase and as soon as I got home from work I printed them off, colored them up and will share one of them with you today.  I instantly connected with these digis and had so much fun adding color to them.

Oh did I mention that they have a challenge blog as well?  Well, they do.  I used the color combo they offered (as a twist) to their Anything Goes challenge to design my card.  I have to admit that when I first saw this color combo, I thought it would be a true challenge.  However, once I sat down and started pulling the papers, embellishments, and cardstock together it took on a life of its own.

Sunday Hat III

As I stated before, I didn't know where to start with this challenge.  So, I colored up my image using Copics.  Once I was happy with her look, I moved on to SU Chocolate cardstock for my card base.  I then added some Bazzill Yellow cardstock.  The dp I used is from Bo Bunny's Zoology 6x6 paperpack.  It was a nice little find as I was going through my paperpacks.  I mounted my image on a Spellbinder's diecut and used a Circle diecut to cut out the image.  I used several different kinds of embellishments on this card, starting with the leaves which are cut from Cheery Lynn flourish diecut.  I also used the two corner decos from Spellbinders.  I finished it off with some flowers from Wild Orchids as well as a little Stickles (my FAV) here and there.  I created the sentiment on my computer and used SU punches to punch it out.

I dedicate this card to all the ladies of my church.  I can remember sitting behind several church ladies when I was younger and imagining that an animal would crawl out of thier huge hats with lots of feathers, flowers and or bows.  My head is waaaaayyy to big to wear a hat (lol), but I do love the look of them with a nice suit and matching purse and heels.
