Mo's "Halloween Hoot" Challenge

Greetings!

Over at Mo's DP2 Challenge, the challenge for this week is to create a card using one of Mo's Halloween images.  I decided to use the cute pumkin' elf.  I hope that this qualifies.  Since last week, I used the little witch.  I decided to make an easle card using top notes.  I like the way it turned out.  It actually gave me another idea for a card, but I didn't have time to make it.  Oh well, something to do over Labor Day weekend.

Here's my entry and TFL!

Oh, I almost forgot.  I created a little poem fro this cutie that reads:

I'm a lil' pumkin' cute as can be...I'm a lil' pumkin' but you can't eat me!

I love this little guy.  Mo also has this little elf in his Christmas outfit with candy canes.  So cute I can hardly stand it! *gigl*

Mojo Monday 154: Shirley2 Girls "Back 2 School"

Greetings!

The little ankle biters (children) will be headed back to school soon.  In Michigan we can tell when that time has come, because the weather becomes colder.  The card that I have created this week for Mojo Monday is also a challenge card for Shirley2Girls "Back2School" challenge.  They gave away full sheet of digis (link below) and all you had to do was to use at least one of the images in a card or page layout.  I created a round card using a few of the images.  TFL!

Sunday Scoop: Mo Manning Interview Segment 5

Greetings!

This is the final segment in Mo's interview.  I would like to thank Mo for this opportunity and to thank everyone who signed up to follow my blog as a result of these interviews.  I hope that you entered your name in the drawing for Mo's blog candy.  I will announce the winner here on my blog this afternoon.   The winner will actually be announced at the end of this month.  My apologies, my inlinkinz doesn't expire until then and wanted to give everyone a chance.  Thanks for participating.

Here's my final question to Mo...
What is the one thing about yourself that you would want to share with your digi fans?

That seriously, as a woman who is deliriously happy just sitting in front of her drawing pad drawing with her two parrots screeching and a bowl of lemon drops nearby -- you guys have allowed me to have the best job I could ever imagine. Go ahead -- keep me here all day, 7 days a week!!! I don't mind! xoMo

I would like to thank Mo once again for allowing me to do this. I've learned that Mo possesses a contagious passion for what she does and we, her followers, reap the sheer benefits of it.

Thank all of you who have joined me this month to celebrate the artist behind the artwork, Mo Manning.

Mojo Challenge 153

Greetings!

Being named Candy makes me naturally drawn to all things sweet.  There are not very many sweets that I do not drool over.  However, I have to admit that I am not fond of cake.  I would rather have a slice of frosting versus a slice of cake, unless my sister is the baker of said cake. *gigl*  Her cakes are awesome.

Well, I guess I was craving a little bit of cake when I created my entry for the Mojo Challenge this week, because it is all about a cup of cake.

I love the colors of this card.  They are fun and truly there is a cupcake for everyone on this card.  TFL!

Toot: Merging Digital Images

You can merge digital stamps using Microsoft Word, and here's a quick and simple (I hope) toot for you to use.

Copy the images you would like to merge into your word document.  I chose Mo's Mariko and Lacie for my merging images.

When you copy the images, right click, select “text wrapping,” and change the format of the pic to “in front of text” which allows you to move them around. Also, if you want to re-size the picture you can click on the pic and the re-sizing knobs will appear around the pic. Those buttons allow you to make the pic bigger or smaller.

Once you have the pic at your desired size, then click on the pic again and go to “Picture Tools.” While still having the pic selected (knobs still around it), click on the “Recolor” drop down menu and select “transparent color.”

You are now ready to merge your pics by moving them around to the layout that you desire. Here’s a card that I made merging images.

I hope you find this "toot" helpful.  Would love to get your feedback!  TFL!

Mo's Challenge x2

Greetings!

The realization that summer is leaving quickly and Fall shall soon be upon us has finally set in.  My neighbor who takes care of cutting my trees and shrubs stopped by to let me know he was going to get started soon.  Also, the little ankle-biters (children) are scurrying around the block trying to soak up the last days of summer.  As much as I love the beauty of Fall (colors of the leaves, apple cider, Thanksgiving, etc.), I will miss summer.

I say all of this in order to set the stage for my card that I created for Mo's Facebook and DP2 challenge.  I love this image and Paulette over at TLC created the perfect sentiment to go along with this (not on purpose).  This little cutie is "Kai" and like any little one she is enjoying playing in the leaves.  TFL!

Flash back

Greetings!

I've been making cards for 10 years, and for the past two years I've been teaching classes.

I decided to take a look back at some of my earlier creations.  It's amazing how far I've come with coloring, layout, techique, etc.  I can really see the improvements that I have made over the years.  What a difference a few years make. *gigl*

Here's a cool card that I did for one of my first card classes "Cards in Motion." I fell in love with stickles when I made this card. (I wish I knew about Copics when I did this card....eek the coloring on the truck).

Sunday Scoop: Mo Manning Interview Segment 4

Greetings!

This is the fourth segment of Mo Manning interviews.  I've enjoyed learning about Mo and I hope that you have too.  Don't forget to sign up to follow my blog and to enter your name in the drawing for the blog candy from Mo (see above).    The drawing will take place August 29th.  TFL!

Out of all the digis you created, which one do you love the most? Why? Have you ever created an image that made you say, “Wow that is good!”?

I actually have always had the habit that once something is finished I start noticing all the flaws in it. So normally, a drawing I do loses it's appeal to me over time. A few I still really like are Siku and Shiya, Patience, Soaking up the Joy, Mummu's Bicycle and all the tantruming two year olds :) I still can't believe I managed to draw a believable bicycle for Mummu -- from that angle -- with no reference!

Paper Piecing Toot

Paper piecing, not to be confused with paper piercing is a technique to add texture and dimension to your artwork.

When choosing a digi stamp to paper piece, the most important thing to consider is whether or not there is enough white space available on the stamp. I chose Mo Manning's "Harvey's Turn," which the towel makes for perfect pieceing space.

Before I move on to the next step, I would like to share a cost-savings spin on paper piecing. Instead of using actual dp I use digital paper (or MS Word backgrounds), which makes paper piecing even more easier. Simply follow steps 1and 2; however, instead of printing out a copy on cardstock and then dp, I select my digi paper (or MS Word backgrounds) and place it on the same page as my image. I then copy the image, make it translucent and place it on top of my digi paper background.

Color the parts of your image that will not be covered with paper, before you glue on the paper pieces.

Now that I have my images printed on cardstock and dp, I can cut out the “towel” section and match it up with that section on my colored image.

Once I have the sections matched up, I add glue to the back of the images and secure them in the right spots. I prefer to use Pinpoint Roller “Quickie Glue,” because it allows you to put glue on small areas which would be very difficult to do using an adhesive roller.

Finally, assemble your creation! Here’s what I came up with.

Sunday Scoop: Mo Manning Interview Segment 3

Greetings!

Here's the 3rd installment in the Mo Manning interview.  I hope that you have been enjoying finding out about Mo.  I know I have.  Be sure to sign up to be entered in the drawing for Mo blog candy.  Just scroll down down to enter your information in the InLinkinz.  TFL!

How did you feel when you first saw your artwork used in a project (card, page layout, etc.)?

AMAZED. To have a black and white drawing leave my desk and the next time I see it it's become a major element in one of the most beautiful cards I've ever seen is just amazing. And then . . . the next day to see the same black and white drawing become a whole new and different beautiful card is completely awesome. I LOOOOOOVE seeing you guys take my drawings to a higher level!!! I don't mind at all that the majority of the time I look at your finished art and KNOW I could not have done it so well.

What advice would you give other digital stamp artist?

Well. That's kind of hard. I don't really see a digital stamp artist as different from a regular professional illustrator. My advice would be to protect your copyright and help other artists protect their copyrights. The digital world is scary -- and a lot of people "using" digital art do not understand that sharing is stealing. Also, there are a lot of people who are trying to sell images that are not really their own.

And a pet peeve -- Scanning in an image and putting it up for sale does NOT make one a digital stamp artist. :)

Thanks, Mo!  Please know that we will come to rescue.

Wedding/Anniversary Cards

Greetings!

It is still hot here, but looks like rain on this eerie Friday 13th!  I wanted to share with you two cards I created that can be used as wedding cards or anniversary cards.  I "found" (hidden away in my paper stash) some beautiful SU DP and thought it would work well for a wedding or anniversary card.  Hope you think so too.  TFL!

You can't tell looking at the pictures of the cards but the patterened DP (background on the second card) has a raised felt texture to it.  It is so beautiful and that is probably why I never used it. *gigl*  Oh well, you only live once and you can't take it with you. *lol*

Sunday Scoop: Mo Interview Segment 2

Greetings!

As promised the interview with Mo Manning continues.  I hope that you've been enjoying learning about the artist behind the artwork we love so much.  I thank you for joining me.  Here's mo Mo Manning...

How did you discover the world of digital stamps?

I knew about rubber stamps of course, but had no idea the images could be sold digitally until a complete stranger (now friend and Challenge Blog Leader) Peggy Marsh emailed me just over one year ago. She had stumbled across my online illustration portfolio and said she strongly believed crafters would want to buy my artwork for stamps. My normal field of publishing has been suffering greatly -- I was almost down to my last dollar so I leapt on the idea and started a shop on Etsy. Peggy helped spread the word and the rest is a blur. I worked 12-16 hours a day, 7 days a week to build up my collection and eventually was able to move off Etsy thanks to my brother's website building skills. (Now I'm down to 8 hours a day 7 days a week) But I have enjoyed every minute of it.

What about digital stamps attracted you to this genre of artwork?

To tell the truth, I am still nervous about having this much of my work available digitally. I've had a lot of trouble with thefts, and copying and people sharing my images illegally. But the thing I absolutely love is that I can draw whatever I want -- anything under the sun -- and put it up on my blog as soon as I'm finished. Then I get almost instant feedback on whether my fans like it.

A big THANKS to Peggy for sharing Mo's talent with us!!

Sunday Scoop: Mo Manning Interview Segment 1

As promised, today kicks off my interview with Mo Manning, the genius (yes, I think you are a genius) behind Mo's Digital Pencil Too and those awesome digi stamps we love so much! My first question to Mo was when did she realize that she could draw? I have always been curious about others' talents, because for so long I didn't think I possessed any. *gigl* Here's what she had to say...

Mo, when did you first learn that you could draw?

Mo: I don't think I ever learned that myself -- I just loved to do it. From the time I was a preschooler and used to draw on the interior pages of the encyclopedias. When I discovered those empty end-pages at the front and back of many of my parents' books, my mother kindly told me the printer left them there for ME to draw on. What a brave mother she was to tell her 4 year old that she was "supposed" to draw in these books! But I don't think I ever drew on any important pages -- or anyplace else I wasn't supposed to.

What would you say would be the characteristics that make an illustrator?

Mo: I think there are three main things that make an illustrator -- meaning someone who can draw.

1. A keen sense of observation and memory to keep all of life's little details at the front of your mind

2. good sense of spacial dynamics -- being able to imagine the same scene, figure or object in your mind from any angle.

3. And most importantly -- the driving passion to draw, draw, draw.

To find out more about the artist behind the art, join me next Sunday for "Sunday Scoop: The Mo Manning Interview."

Welcome to the Sunday Scoop...

Before I get started with the first segment of the interview with the talented Mo Manning, I wanted to introduce myself.  Actually you can read all about me here ----------------------------------------->
Beside the fact that I love to create cards, I also love to write, read, and watch mysteries.

I came up with the idea to interview Mo, because I admire Mo's work and especially the diversity of her images. It is very rare that you find an artist in the digi world that can capture ethnicity in an image. I also came up with this idea, as a way to increase my followers. I love people! Growing up in a family of 17, I think it is a must. I am inspired by others and so this idea of interviewing various digi artist was born.

When I asked Mo about this a few months ago she quickly agreed, which shocked me. However, it really shouldn't have, because Mo has a big heart and it shows in her work.

As I stated, this is the first segment in the "Sunday Scoop" interview with Mo.   Every Sunday for the month of August, I will post a segment of the interview with Mo and you'll find out how she got started in the digi business, what inspires her, what's her pet peeve, and so much more!  You don't want to miss it.  Also, you can enter your name for a chance to win a really cool prize at the end of the month.

Thank you for joining me and feel free to leave comments or questions that you would like Mo to answer.
